Get a Girl Going!, Seattle
Promoting the GoGirlGo! Curriculum

Who We Are
Get a Girl Going!, Seattle is the local effort of the Seattle Chapter of Hadassah to promote the GoGirlGo! curriculum. Our volunteers are made up of men and women in the community who share our pledge to help young women adopt a healthy lifestyle. Hadassah pledges to help educate women and girls about their own bodies and their health.
We are about solutions. The Women's Sports Foundation has shown that getting girls active, offering and encouraging them in a physical activity, makes a difference. Active girls are more likely to have a positive body image. Active girls are more likely to feel confident about their abilities. Active girls are more likely to value their bodies, and therefore themselves, for the things their bodies can do, rather than for the way their bodies look. And active girls take care of themselves, reducing their immediate risk for unintended pregnancy, smoking, drinking, and drug use. Active girls further reduce their future risk for obesity, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, and more. The national GoGirlGo! campaign is a positive solution that has already touched the lives of over 500,000 young girls.
What We Do
We seek to educate the local community about the GoGirlGo! program and to encourage schools and youth-serving organizations to utilize the free GoGirlGo! curriculum by creating their own groups. We sponsor educational events (which included a Leadership Invitational in February) and assist new leaders in setting up their groups. We will begin to organize girls to attend events, such as 5K runs, that celebrate physical activity. Additionally, we offer a single location on this site for leaders to create and announce their groups; parents to find groups for their girls; and for girls to join the GoGirlGo! community.
What Exactly is GoGirlGo!?
GoGirlGo! is a free curriculum created by the Womens' Sports Foundation geared towards 8-18 year old girls. It has 8 sections and can be implemented as an after-school program, summer program, or incorporated into PE lessons. It can be implemented at a school, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, church, synagogue, girl scouts, and a variety of other places. The groups meet 8-10 times (or longer if you want). Each group meeting you spend about half an hour talking about a successful female athlete and an adolescent issue (such as bullying, diversity, body shape). The other half hour is spent doing physical actvity. It can be the same thing every week or something different every week. The girls could learn a sport (basketball), individual exercise (yoga), or simply be lead in physical games (hopscotch, jumprope, etc.). The organiztion that wants to use this curriculum will be supported by Seattle Chapter of Hadassah. We will give you guidance, support, training, and more.
