Regional GoGirlGo! Leadership Training

August 12th, 2008

Mercer Island Community Center

This will be a small gathering of local volunteers who are interested in running and starting a GoGirlGo! group.  We will cover basics of the curriculum, national statistics, where to start a group, how to market the group, what a typical group looks like, what a first group should cover, talking to parents, etc.  At the end, we will have a mock GoGirlGo! group.  If you are interested in attending, please contact us at sheri@getagirlgoing.org.  High school age and above are welcome to attend.

Dr. Monica Richter (a local pediatrician working with the Bodyworks program) and Crystal Shwenk, LMHC (an integral part of the 20/20 Committed to Kids program) will kick things off by speaking about the short- and long-term effects of childhood inactivity and obesity. Then, a national representative from the Women’s Sports Foundation will introduce the GoGirlGo! after-school curriculum.
